My Entrepreneurship Story

I was exposed to entrepreneurship through my parents, who are both multiple business-starters. Actually, I hadn't even realized this from the definition that was taught to us in grade school, which made us picture door-to-door salesmen with a briefcase. Both of my parents are pharmacists and have worked in basically every drug store franchise or supermarket that had a pharmacy section. They agreed with customers about large lines, being understaffed, lack of communication, and the lack of general concern for the welfare of the customer that most big-name stores possessed. That's why they left and became their own bosses, setting up multiple of their own local pharmacies. Pharmacists that work for a corporation don't care about customers because they get paid by the hour regardless and will get a wage anyway. My parents are different; they care about their customers on an individual basis, and not just because they have motive to since their income depends on it.

I enrolled in ENT3003 because I want to figure out a unconventional self-made occupation while also avoiding all the bumps along the way with the guidance of some knowledge rather than having to fumble my way to success. Being self-made and also my own boss is also a really tempting occupational hazard.

  1. That is very cool that you have such a personal connection to the world of entrepreneurship! I'm sure seeing your parents work so hard at what they do to fill the needs of customers only makes you want to work harder to make an impact like theirs! I think that in your case, taking this class was a great idea to help you better understand what all goes into entrepreneurship before you become your own boss!

  2. We have a similar influence in our lives when it comes to entrepreneurship, although yours is on a larger scale and closer to something I would like to do. I would like to work in finance and after a few years of experience working for a larger firm, I would like to open my own with fellow colleagues. Personally, I would rather be working with a firm that puts focus on customer needs, similar to the needs your parents were focused on, rather than a large scale company that cant reach the client on a personal level. Also the opportunity to be my own boss one day really correlate with your post and past experience. I'm excited to learn more about your influences and see how our thoughts relate!
