Your Venture's Advantage (What Makes You So Special?)

* Creativity--my ideas.
V: This is pretty valuable or else I'd have no product to start with.
R: It's not rare in the broad sense but it's actually extremely rare when you come to specifics, so it can swing on either extreme. Like people; humans as a species is not rare or uncommon, but each individual being is completely unique and never repeated.
I: It's not too easy to copy unless you go into copyright infringement, but as for jumping on a bandwagon idea, people tend to notice.
N: Other people might like other types of art, so this one just varies.

* Awesome efficiency--I can type super fast
V: This helps me churn out material, so yes.
R: Maybe at the speeds I go its a bit uncommon, but I wouldn't say rare (not that it really matters if other people are fast in reference to me)
I: I don't think you can copy a speed. You can catch up to one, but everyone has their own pace.
N: Maybe, if someone uses those voice things that just type the words for you as they speak.

* Productivity--I can skip a bunch of planning phases most people need and skip right to the actual work itself.
V: This is valuable because I hate not seeing any progress in a project.
R: This is subjective and can't be measured.
I: You can't copy someone else's progress.
N: Maybe, if you have some kind of technological advancement or outside help, but then is it really your art?

* I have a Mac and not some weird ancient keyboard.
V: This is kind of important, because typewriters would probably suck and physical single copies are hard to maintain.
R: It's not rare, but the stuff different people put it to use for is.
I: I don't think it's easy to copy an entire computer hardware/software thing, so no.
N: Perhaps a different computer brand? There's only like two big ones out there.

* I have new software that actually saves work instead of crashing every three minutes due to overload of pages.
V: This is a time saver and stress saver. Yes.
R: Surprisingly yes. Sadly.
I: Hopefully it would be because I'd love to be able to use different platforms that all still work.
N: None that I've encountered.

* I am well versed in publishing houses and what they tend to seek.
V: It's good to know your next step, so yeah.
R: Maybe for someone who's in my age, major, lifestyle, etc etc etc.
I: I guess you could copy it by doing the exact same thing, but I'm telling you it's a lot of silent hours and library research.
N: There isn't really a substitute for knowledge.

* I know (or can find out) what genres each literary agent is looking for.
V: This is a good thing to keep in the back of your mind because it's hard to get anywhere without them.
R: Not too rare, but maybe to my extent as a student maybe.
I: Again, I guess you could copy it by doing the exact same thing.
N: Knowledge can't be replaces.,

* I know my target audience well.
V: This is really important or copies won't sell.
R: Apparently so, shockingly, since "authors don't make good material anymore."
I: I guess not. Sad but good in a way.
N: You can't replace understanding with some fake knockoff of pretending to know people's likes to sell to them.

* I know what's overdone in the market.
V: This is important because then you know what to avoid.
R: Apparently, since there are so many more overdone tropes.
I: Probably, yes. Most of the consumers themselves know this.
N: Nope, or copies won't sell.

* I am very good at self-representing.
V: Yes, because you have to be your own agent before anyone else will vouch for you.
R: Not really, since it's not uncommon that people usually find help. Maybe total self-made successes are rare.
I: You can't fake this one, lads. Either ya got it or ya don't.
N:Unless your work is just THAT GOOD it speaks for itself, there's probably no substitute for being good at putting yourself out there.

I think that being creative is the most important resource, because if your product is that special, the rest will come, even if not naturally. If you're confident and have faith that what you made is truly unique and needed, the world will too.

  1. I would have to agree with you about creativity being your most important resource. You do have a lot of good ones though, knowing your audience and having experience with publishing houses are also going to really help you out as you continue in your journey to publish your work!
